A small and cute baby which is rolling and polling in the hand of his mother. The movement when he starts yawning in his moms hands is a wonderful and important movement for her mother. Bundle of joy? Or bundle of noise? Generally most babies cry for a full two or three hours in a day during the first few months of life. As soon as teeth start on to grow in babies it is known as teething. Generally, this stage in an infant’s life occurs anywhere between 3 months and 2 years. Coming of teething is a very important phase for babies as well as for parents. Although there is no fixed time when the teething will begin, sometime it start early & sometimes it may take time but it is usually before four to seven months that the first tooth of the baby makes its appearance. The process differs too, some babies face difficulty while some don’t even realize.  Here, we are mentioning some of the teething blues that mostly indicate that your tiny tot is getting ready for his first bite:

  • Want to chew anything: An emerging tooth pushes beneath the gums to come out and may feel itchy or funny to the baby & he tries to find out things to chew to get over this worrying sensation. Thus, children often chew and bite on anything that they can lay their hands on including mom's breasts while breastfeeding and that really hurts.
  • Swollen gums:  Many times it is seen that when tooth is about to come it swallows the gums. This is because eruption of a new tooth’s pushes the gum from beneath incessantly in a struggle to gum, makes the gums look red, swollen, and puffy and bruised before it actually emerges. As soon as the tooth appears, the gums will be back to normal.
  • Increased irritability and fussiness, especially at night: The baby becomes more irritated & fussiness, especially in night because the tooth moves through the bone and gum that occurs in stages and is more active at night.
  • Drooling: If your baby is drooling then you need not to worry, it is a normal tendency in infancy & it shows first sign of teething. To avoid dehydration try to give him liquid & healthy food more.
  • Change in Feeding Habits: While teething, you will see that there is changing feeding habit in your baby. This is because of irritation & swollen gums, in that case some babies may want to be breast or bottle-fed once again as their gums are swollen and inflamed and spoon hurts them. Others start nursing eagerly but pull back and cry as sucking may cause pressure on their gums and ear canals that irritates or causes pain to them. Still others may like to eat solids (sometimes more than usual) because chewing on food items creates the counter-pressure that feels good and helps relieve pain in gums.
